Figure3 Leadership attends ORCA Con

Figure3 Leadership at ORCA Con joined industry peers for the only event of its kind exclusively for Ontario retirement community professionals. The conference brought together senior leaders and commercial partners for innovative, global learning and networking. This year’s program featured a great address by Raymond Cho, Minister of Seniors and Accessibility, and an inspiring interview with James Schlegel, President and CEO of Schlegel Villages, offering a look into the family-run business and the principles that have driven its success.

One of the highlights for Figure3 Leadership at ORCA Con was a keynote by Nikolas Badminton, a globally renowned futurist who mentors top executives and governments in crafting bold visions for the future. His talk was both thought-provoking and deeply inspirational, urging the audience to shift from the hype around technology to embracing “hope engineering” as a tool to create better futures. He described hope as a renewable resource—something that fuels positive change and innovation.

Nikolas touched on how technologies like AI, robotics, and predictive healthcare systems will play a transformative role in industries like senior living. The hospitality industry, like senior living, is shaped by many of the same global trends—an aging population, climate change, and rapidly advancing technologies. The ripple effects of these trends are profound, and our spaces must be designed to reflect not just current realities, but future scenarios as well.

This perspective resonated deeply, reinforcing the importance of combining creativity, empathy, and collaboration to improve the lives of seniors. ORCA Conference 2024 once again proved to be an essential platform for industry leaders dedicated to positive change.
