Elm & Ledbury

Elm & Ledbury, located on Queen Street, transcends the traditional concept of a purpose-built rental building. It stands as a striking example of modern urbanism that harmoniously blends the vibrant energy of its surrounding neighborhood with a unique design language. Inspired by Queen Street’s eclectic mix of heritage buildings, low-rise apartments, and distinctive shops, Elm & Ledbury seamlessly integrates into its environment while presenting a fresh perspective on urban living.

The design of Elm & Ledbury focuses on creating activated, curated spaces that feel like home while enhancing community engagement. In the lobby, a central element of this vision, a striking curved design captivates with materials such as terrazzo and textured brick, typically used in exterior settings. This design choice connects the building with the lively atmosphere of Queen Street, while also providing a comfortable residential setting. A double-sided fireplace and cozy lounge areas further emphasize the building’s commitment to comfort and community, serving as multifunctional spaces where residents can socialize or relax.

Innovative use of curves both on the exterior and throughout the interior establishes a unique visual identity, setting Elm & Ledbury apart from its surroundings. This design choice fosters a sense of movement and openness, contrasting with the neighborhood’s traditional straight lines.

"It's so important to understand a neighborhood's values and attributes. It’s about harnessing that energy and translating it into the physical space,”

Dominic De Freitas, Principal, Figure3

Today’s purpose-built rentals are characterized by their unique brand identities and thoughtful on-site programming, moving beyond the ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach of the past. De Freitas notes, “Renting is no longer just a stepping stone to home ownership. With rising costs, fostering long-term resident relationships is key. Developers are leveraging brand recognition and adding value like never before.”

Elm & Ledbury reflects this evolution by offering a luxurious, hospitality-inspired living experience. Drawing on Figure3’s expertise, the interiors evoke the feel of a boutique hotel, featuring warm woods, refined finishes, and modern furniture that create a welcoming atmosphere. A standout feature is the wine-themed bridge—a wide, light-filled breezeway connecting the two towers. Designed as a destination in its own right, the bridge invites residents to relax, socialize, and enjoy curated wine tastings, transforming a simple passageway into a vibrant communal space.

Addressing contemporary needs, Elm & Ledbury provides versatile and inviting amenities. The building includes a co-working space, a games room, The Temple®—a state-of-the-art, commercial-grade gym—and Lido®—a rooftop terrace with a swimming pool. These amenities support a range of activities and social interactions, reflecting Figure3’s design philosophy that emphasizes the creation of functional, engaging, and adaptable spaces.
