Carré Windsor

Once the centre of Montréal’s social and business life, the Windsor Hotel welcomed travellers, artists, political leaders, and royalty. Opened in 1878, it became one of the city’s defining destinations. Today, Carré Windsor reimagines that legacy as a contemporary purpose-built rental community in downtown Montréal.

Rather than recreate the grandeur of the former hotel, Figure3 translated its character into a contemporary design language. In the two-storey lobby, geometric wall blocks abstract the masonry details of the original façade, while indoor trees recall its celebrated courtyard. Pale woods, stone, and limestone-inspired tones create a warm, restrained palette, complemented by local artwork and references to Montréal’s music and creative culture.

Across more than 11,000 square feet of amenities, hospitality and community are woven into the resident experience. A café, lounge, and coworking spaces animate the lobby, while private work rooms, communal tables, and flexible event spaces support both focused work and social gathering. Sliding glass walls allow three event spaces to operate independently or combine into one larger venue, with details such as a freestanding glass fireplace, copper ceilings, rippled metal, concealed doors, and integrated storage adding moments of craft and visual drama.

The amenity program extends beyond work and social spaces to support residents across generations. A playful children’s room features a full-scale canopy, illustrated surfaces, and a giant Lite-Brite wall, while a gym, infrared sauna, and salt room create spaces for play and restoration. With more than 500 rental homes, Carré Windsor brings new life to a historic downtown site, transforming a former landmark of Montréal hospitality into a contemporary place to live, gather, and connect.
